Coastal kayaking at Huntington Beach State Park

Experience the Murrells Inlet marsh upfront and personal. Join in this kayaking fun on a two hour guided tour of the salt marsh. Excellent for beginners, participants need to reserve a spot at the Education Center (235-8755) by 4:00pm on Sunday prior to program. Designed for ages 9 and up, under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and lace up shoes that can get wet and muddy. Fee $30/per person. Georgetown County Public Meeting on Murrells Inlet Dredge Site

Georgetown County and its consultant will be conducting a public meeting in reference to the Murrells Inlet Confined Disposal Facility Site. They ask all interested members of the community to attend. The meeting will be at the Family Life Center of Belin United Methodist Church, 4182 Hwy 17 Business. Brookgreen Gardens hosts performances for the Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art

Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet is host to several performance of the Festival’s featured artists. Sam Bush, an innovator in modern acoustic music, plays on the 12th. Barrage, a contemporary string ensemble, is featured on the 13th. Waccamaw High School and The Hallelujah Singers perform on the 14th. Chicago City Limits, a political comedy, performs on the 20th. The Litchfield Ballet Foundation is featured on the 21st. Pianist Philip Powell wraps up the Brookgreen Gardens performances on the 27th. 20th Annual International Beach & River Sweep

Beach Sweep/River Sweep—organized by S.C. Sea Grant Consortium in partnership with S.C. Department of Natural Resources—is the largest one-day litter cleanup of South Carolina’s beaches and waterways. Last year, over 6,000 South Carolinians from the mountains, through the midlands, to the coast collected over 57 tons of trash from our waterways, covering 1,345 miles of environmentally sensitive areas. Halloween on the Marshwalk for the Adults & the Kids

Bring the kids to the marshwalk (5:00 pm - 6:00 pm) for trick-or-treating fun and a costume contest. WPDE Ed Piotrowski will be giving the weather with the kids on the Marshwalk. Call 843-651-3232.

MICT kicks off its 11th season with Nagle Jackson’s sophisticated comedy set in an island getaway off the coast of New England. Casey, the no-nonsense owner of an upscale magazine, and her publisher/lover are hosting their annual all-day Monopoly game. Joining them are the editor and his guest, the magazine’s hoity-toity food critic. Casey plans to use the occasion to fire her editor, but her first priority is putting a hotel on Marvin Gardens. Come and enjoy the fun as the Murrells Inlet Christmas parade starts at Willcox Avenue and marches down Business 17. Immediately following the parade, meet at Morse Landing Park with Santa and the gang. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with the children at the park. The Christmas tree will be lit and the Eagle Scouts will man a bonfire to take the nip out of the air. Choirs will entertain the crowd at the park. A.R. Gurney’s funny and fast-paced play takes place during a party at a high-rise apartment overlooking Boston Harbor. The play revolves around Ruth and Austin, two flawed characters who reconnect after 30 years. He is a well-mannered but somewhat neurotic banker; she is a free-spirited, four-times-divorced romantic. Both are utterly unfulfilled and now appear to be teetering on the edge of romance. As they become reacquainted, a parade of colorful partygoers darts in and out, offering glimpses of life’s infinite possibilities. Lost at Sea Memorial Names Submission Due Date

Families and friends of loved ones who have been lost at sea are invited to submit names for inscription on the monument. The Lost at Sea Memorial ceremony is scheduled for April 5. Murrells Inlet Community Theater prsents "Visiting Mr. Green"

Jeff Baron’s award-winning play will close out the 2008-2009 MICT season. Set in an Upper West Side Manhattan apartment, the play features just two characters. Mr. Green is an 86-year-old retired dry cleaner and recent widower. Ross is a 29-year-old corporate executive. When Ross nearly runs over Mr. Green in city traffic, he is ordered to perform community service – specifically, visiting and assisting Mr. Green, who wants nothing to do with him. As the play unfolds, sometimes comically and at other times with great intensity, both men make life-defining revelations that threaten to distance them even further. 18th Annual Spring Tide Clean-Up

Cleanup activity on all Inlet waters and roads from 9 am till Noon, followed by the Murrells Inlet "Best Damn Chowder" Cook-Off and Music Celebration – where the cleanup volunteers eat free! Bring boats, creek shoes, bug repellent, boots, and gloves. Call 843-357-2007.

MI2007 Annual Golf & Tennis Benefit

This annual event is always a sell-out, so reserve your space early. The best-ball, full-handicap golf play costs $125 per person and includes green fees, cart, a delicious buffet and chance to win one of many great prizes to be given away. Tennis costs $40 per person and includes a spirited round-robin double tournament and lunch. Golf starts at 9:00 am. Tennis starts at 11:30am. Sign up individually or with friends! Grand Strand Saltwater Anglers Association Murrells Inlet Flounder Fishing Tournament

Now in its 8th year, the tournament, sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Herald and West Marine, is a must-do for the flounder fishering enthusiast. Prizes awarded in the adult division, youth division and lady angler division. Captain’s meeting and registration will be held Friday, April 25th at 6pm at Spuds Waterfront Dining Restaurant (next to Captain Dick’s Marina). Registration occurs Friday before the tournament, 4-7 pm at Crazy Sisters Marina, 4123 Hwy 17 Business in Murrells Inlet. The tournament kicks off at 6am on Saturda from Crazy Sisters Marina. Proceeds benefit the Murrells Inlet Rotary Club charitable projects.

Surfrider Foundation hosts the annual luau at Atalaya Castle at Huntington Beach State Park. Price inlcudess all food, beverages and entertianment, including Hawaiian music, hula dancing, a fire show and silent auction. Rain or shine! Tickets are limited, so get them early!

26th Annual July 4th Boat Parade at high tide - Theme TBD

There’s nothing more patriotic than seeing a line of decorated boats cruising down the creek for the Murrells Inlet Fourth of July parade. The year’s theme will be announced around April 2009. Boat and dock decoration contest entry forms will be available at Garden City Realty, Captain Dick’s Marina, Booty’s or the MI2007 office. Entry costs $5. You only need to enter if you want to be judged in the decoration contest. Anyone is welcome to join in the parade at no charge. Spectators can line the Marshwalk area for the best view of the parade. Come early for a great viewing spot and stick around to have lunch at any of the fine Inlet restaurants after the parade. Fireworks at 10pm

Fireworks are shot off over the Inlet waters. Thousands of people line the shores to enjoy the display. Call 843-357-2007.

6th Annual Soda Jerk Contest

Come to Lee’s Inlet Apothecary & Gifts at 3579 Hwy 17 Business to experience the creations of our most talented soda jerks. The contest celebrates the anniversary of the store’s opening and began when the owners installed their 1920s marble and milk glass soda fountain in 2002.
