1:00 pm-4:00 pm Great Murrells Inlet Chowder Cook-off

South Carolina’s biggest and longest-running one-day community cleanup, the Spring Tide effort, over the years, has rid the Inlet saltmarsh and roadsides of literally hundreds of tons of trash and debris while bringing the community closer together in appreciation and care of the local environment—and organizers are hoping for a record turnout this year.
Volunteers are needed to provide and crew watercraft, pick up along the streets, unload boats and trucks, help out at the headquarters, provide and drive pickup trucks.
Spring Tide begins at 8:30 a.m., with a brief dedication ceremony by the creekside overlook at Morse Landing Park on Business 17 South. The cleanup work begins immediately thereafter. Morse Landing will be the main trash-deposition site.
The cleanup proceeds from 9 a.m. until noon, when volunteers reconvene at the Hot Fish Club’s Gazebo for the Great Murrells Inlet Chowder Cook-Off, an informal competition among Inlet and Garden City restaurants that brings the winner the “Best Damn Chowder” award, and feeds the cleanup participants. The afternoon is devoted to appreciation for the workers and a celebration of a clean creek.
